Convergence accommodated by lithospheric folding | |||||||||
Lithospheric folding is a recent addition to the list of processes that accommodate convergence between landmasses (Burg et al., 2000). Although this process does not contribute for much shortening, it may control the initiation of the major intra-continental thrust faults away from the suture zone. The topograpy map reveals to the north of Tibet a serie of en-échelon linear belts that have been related to strain localization associated with the buckling of the lithosphere. |
