New Zealand Alpine fault is close to the boundary between the North margin of the Campbell Plateau (including the Chatham Rise) and the Tasman Sea. The Alpine Fault is a dextral transpressive transform fault linking two trenches of opposite vergence: The east-vergin Hjort Trench (South of Macquarie Island) and the west-verging Kermadec Trench to the East of the North Island. |
