ELLIPSIS Examples: Strain localization -
Strain weakening is achieved by multiplying the yield stress by a weakening factor power-law function of the accumulated strain ε. Below an strain treshold (ε0) the strain weakening function is:
above the strain treshold (ε0) the weakening function is constant and equal to Ea.
The experiment on the right illustrates the strain localization function in Ellipsis. This experiment shows the plastic deformation in map view of a region impinged upon by a rigid indenter.
Lateral escape, along a zone of intense strain localization, of a portion of the deformable region accommodates the convergence.
