GEOS-2202
Module: Introduction to Structural Geology

Course Assessment 2003

The survey is based on 629 cumulative answers from 17 students. Over 66% of these answers points toward a good to excellent perception of the course, whereas students judge positively their own participation. Overall there is only 12% of answers that points toward unsactifactory experience.

Assessment of the course only (including lecturer). Student assessment of their engagement with the course.

Based on this evaluation I don't think that major changes are needed. Most negative comments points toward circumstances outside this course (clashes with other course, other courses assignment due at the same time etc.)

List at least the two things that helped you to learn in this subject and explain why each was important to you.

Sketch-based explanation. Graphics on the website give good visual understanding. Good lecture notes. 3D diagrams helped me to visualise. Detailed notes and web resources. Good class, we helped each other. Weblog was a good idea, it helped the students get in touch with each other about common issues in the course. Availability of course material on the web. Availability of the lecturer. I was forced to think. Patrice's approachability. The lecturer to ask questions and explain things. Web resources. Good explanation to each practical exercises. Availability of all resources on the net. The practical exercises were good and I learnt a lot.

List at least two things that could be improved and explain why these changes would help you to learn.

More exemple exercises in the praticals. More explanation for the practicals. More example on the board with the whole class. Web material available on paper. Web notes were too difficult to put to hand copy. Class clashes on thursday means that I could not stay for the entire pract. Lack of coordination with other module implies that assignement were all due at the same time. Assignement were due when the next one was handed in therefore no time to incorporate feedback from one assignement to the next. Workload too large compared to other subject. Pace to fast to keep up.
