Transtension tectonic regime involves a component of lengthening perpendicular to transform boundary. Transtensional strain can be either homogeneously distributed across the transform boundary, or partitioned. In the late case bulk lengthening occurs in discrete domains bounded by strike slip faults where shear motion (wrench motion) occurs.
